yesterday i spent the morning opening up and organising my very own GRAINFATHER BREW SYSTEM (given to me by my absolutely stunning, intelligent, witty, charming, clever, gorgeous, and amazing wife!). needless to say i was stupidly excited. i then brewed up a beer i'll be looking to brew on many occasions in future; all to honour the birth and milestones of my favourite little guy, Miles.
he joined us promptly on his due date, the 16/11/2015, at 6:11pm, and since then, Jenna and i have been falling in love with him over and over, each and every day.
to honour his birth and celebrate it, i wanted to brew a beer - the same thing i do for many things i love and enjoy and appreciate. for this little guy though, i wanted something more unique, and so along came the ''milestone international lager'. i named it this for various reasons - firstly, as it shares his name, but also because i will re-brew this beer (and tweak it and improve it every version) as he celebrates milestones throughout his life. it is also a milestone for me as a brewer as it is my first proper lager. i'd never properly made one before and used the right temperatures for ferment and so this beer is a big leap and step for me as a brewer. i'm really looking forward to sharing this keg with his family and friends.
at first, i intend to brew it because of his birthday. after this, i'll re-brew it whenever a milestone is reached. by this i don't just mean his first steps and first words, but whatever is a feat of his own volition - the things he achieves, celebrates, takes pride in, and enjoys throughout his entire life - no matter what they might be.
i decided to brew a lager as it is a beer that most people can enjoy; both beer nerds like myself, and those who prefer their blander pub beers. this beer will aim to please both palates as it will have a clean balanced flavour, but then a late hop burst of saaz.
i love you Miles. may you get to enjoy this beer with me when we brew it on your 18th birthday!
