brewing notes:
21/01/14 - the name is taken from the very first computer game (made in 1981) that my older brother justin and i played on the commodore console, when i would have been no older than about 4 years old...best. game. ever! it will showcase some explosive american hops - similar in bill to the pliny the elder imperial ipa from russian river brewery in san francisco (simcoe, columbus and centennial). it will be my first time using these hops, except for centennial of course.
17/03/14 - great brew day today. hit most of my targets (only 2 points under gravity at end of boil). did a mash out for the first time using a vegetable colander and it worked really well to keep the bag off the bottom of the pot. this will be a BIG beer. can't wait to taste it.
tasting notes:
03/04/14 - put this baby into a keg last night. was the first kegging i've done of one of my beers, and happily, for one of the beers i'm most excited about!! hoping to give it a try this coming saturday after it's carbonated up some. took a sneaky taste while kegging it and it's BITTER and really really columbus-y (just the way i wanted it). not for the faint-hearted.
05/04/14 - hot damn. just had my first taste today from the keg. it was AMAZING. it's unbelievable to have it ready so soon. should be matured in about a week but from this early on, it's sensational.
18/04/14 - so it's had a few weeks to condition now in the keg, and damn, this one has won some hearts so far. would go so far as to say one of my best IPAs. very very happy with it, still don't 100% like the us-05 taste (or i'm just getting sick of it), or perhaps the finish is slightly higher than how i like my IPAs but i'm still very very in love with it. it's gotten better with age in the keg, just as it would in the bottle only it was still very drinkable almost straight after kegging.
